After many long debates and countless hours of development, Doctrine has been successfully ported to a PECL extension and will be maintained as a PECL extension from now on. The extension can be downloaded and installed via PEAR. As a PECL extension the ORM performs 4 times as fast and brings unbelievable results. Enjoy!

PEAR Install Instructions Posted by Fernando Nunes about about 1 year ago.
Oh.. and by the way..
1- pear channel-discover pear.phpdoctrine.org <- not sure this is really needed
2- pear install -f pear.phpdoctrine.org/doctrine
...and the package is installed.
Keep up the good work !

The Pear installation is trivial, and everything is working great out of the box. What's even better? it's not 4X faster, but actually 12X faster for my project. Dotrine rocks!
PEAR Posted by Fernando Nunes about about 1 year ago.
Well, guess i mixed up PEAR with PECL :(
PEAR is basically just a project repository, is that correct ?
And please explain, how can doctrine be faster if the code its just the same ?
