Doctrine has been used by many symfony developers for nearly two years as an externally maintained plugin. This week it became official and Doctrine will be bundled and supported by the symfony core team as of version 1.2 which is slated for late Q4 2008. You can read the full blog article on the symfony-project.org blog.

It's about time :) Posted by Colnector about 10 months ago.
I hope the sfDoctrinePlugin for Symfony 1.1 would be maintained though...
Roadmap? Posted by Philbert about 10 months ago.
Being a developer using Symfony & sfDoctrinePlugin I'm a bit confused about the roadmap in regards to the versions of Symfony, Doctrine and how they are linked with the sfDoctrinePlugin.
Right now one of the questions I can't find an answer to is: Can we expect a sfDoctrinePlugin for Symfony 1.0 to externally link Doctrine 1.0? It seems to only link to 0.11 currently.
I believe that these kinds of issues have been talked about on the mailing-list at some point, but it would be nice to have it wrapped up in a well-linked wiki. IMHO the info at http://www.symfony-project.org/plugins/sfDoctrinePlugin leaves a lot to be desired (mostly because I can't find an answer to my question!)
I guess I'm just looking for a roadmap/over-view on the sfDoctrinePlugin to be available so I'm abundantly clear on where things are and where things are going! :)
That all said, I still (heart) Doctrine :)

I do hope Doctrine will continue to actively support non-Symfony setups. I'm using it with ZF ;-)
Plugin for symfony 1.1 Posted by Garfield-fr about 10 months ago.
+1 to maintain a plugin version for symfony 1.1 with sfForm, etc

@Garfield-fr sfDoctrinePlugin for symfony 1.0 is being maintained by @gnat42 and as of right now I am maintaining 1.1 and 1.2
@Vincent We support all users who use Doctrine in any framework. With zend, no work is required on our part to maintain a plugin or any kind of drop in functionality for Doctrine. It just so happens that I am a symfony user and am also the developer of the sfDoctrinePlugin
ZF ! Posted by desfrenes about 9 months ago.
Hi there,
"I do hope Doctrine will continue to actively support non-Symfony setups. I'm using it with ZF ;-)"
I second this ! Doctrine really fills a gap for the Zend Framework, being a real M in its MVC...
Right now coupling ZF and Doctrine is really easy, I hope this will remain.
Go on! Posted by Sjoerd about 9 months ago.
Great work! It's really good to see all the good work being done right now. I look forward contributing back to the project.
Zend framework collaboration Posted by Yanko Heinze about 9 months ago.
Hello Doctrine team,
I would suggest (again) a collaboration with the zend framework, It would be a great package to have also Doctrine core support from Zend.
Doctrine 2.0 ? Posted by Taku about 9 months ago.
Dear Jonathan,
could you tell us what will remain, once you work at Sensio, your primary goal ?
Is your primary mission developing the Doctrine technology, or integrating it and maintaining it into Symfony ?
Both ?
Anyway, thanks for this beautiful piece of software. Hope to see Doctrine2.0 on rails soon :).

@taku My primary focus is moving Doctrine forward. That includes development, documentation, training, books, integration with other frameworks, etc. All these things benefit the project in different ways.
